Chadd Lacy is a glass artist based in West Palm Beach, Florida, known for functional glass shaped like whales and other sea life. His pieces, from tiny micro whales to full-size Moby Dick sculptures and whale tail rigs, are hand-sculpted, one of a kind, and built to be used as well as displayed.
Chadd Lacy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art before moving to Florida, where his work in pipe culture took off after he opened his first studio there. He and his partner, glass artist Adrienne "AJ" DiSalvo, now live and work in West Palm Beach. Lacy's work follows whimsical, nautical themes, and he has said the starting point was Moby Dick: the prints in the book, its imagery and the idea of the white whale. Time spent snorkeling off South Florida keeps feeding the sea life in his glass.
Lacy and DiSalvo also collaborate: DiSalvo, a former master goldsmith, carves cameo glass with anatomical and memento mori imagery onto Lacy's creatures. Their collaborations, like the Head In A Bottle series, are held in private and public collections.
Lacy's whales are working pieces: the Moby Dick Whale in Deja Blue and Humpback Chonker in Purple Rain are sculpted whale bubblers, and the Whale Tail Rig in Hot Sauce and Whale Tail Rig in Illuminati turn a breaching tail into a dab rig. Color names like Deja Blue, Purple Rain and Illuminati refer to the specialty boro colors used in each piece.

Most Chadd Lacy pieces are one of one: the listing shows the actual piece, and once it sells it is gone. Clean heady glass gently with warm, not hot, isopropyl alcohol and fine salt, swirl instead of shaking hard, and rinse with warm water.
