Hammer bubblers from Eyce, Grav, IC Glass, MAV Glass, and AFM — flat-base, side-stem water-filtered hand pipes named for their hammer-head silhouette. Glass and silicone hammer bubblers, stocked at Angies Boutique, 838 N Broadway in Los Angeles.

      • Glass hammer bubblers — AFM 7" and 8", Grav, IC Glass, MAV Glass
      • Silicone hammer bubblers — Eyce Hammer Silicone Bubbler in 14 colorways
      • Flat-base design — sits stable on a table between hits
      • Carried at Angies Boutique since 1990

A hammer bubbler is a water-filtered hand pipe with a flat base and a side-mounted stem — the body looks like a hammer head, and the flat base lets the piece lie down stably on a table between hits. It sits between a dry spoon pipe and a full bong: water filtration for a smoother, cooler hit, but small enough to hold in one hand.

The selection at Angies Boutique covers both materials. Glass hammer bubblers — the AFM 7" and 8" Hammer Bubblers, plus Grav, IC Glass, and MAV Glass pieces — deliver clean borosilicate flavor and a single percolator. Silicone hammer bubblers — the Eyce Hammer Silicone Bubbler, available in 14 colorways including Black, Blue Marble, Camo, Creature Green, Dark Green, and Deep Blue — trade some flavor clarity for drop resistance and dishwasher-safe cleaning, with a removable glass bowl.

      Ideal For

      • Smokers who want water filtration in a hand-held piece
      • Buyers who want a bubbler that sits flat and stable between hits
      • Travel and outdoor users — the Eyce silicone option survives drops
      • Color shoppers — the Eyce Hammer line has 14 colorways

The hammer bubbler collection sorts by material. Glass hammer bubblers: the AFM 7" Hammer Bubbler and AFM 8" Hammer Bubbler, plus Grav, IC Glass, and MAV Glass pieces — clean borosilicate with a single percolator. Silicone hammer bubblers: the Eyce Hammer Silicone Bubbler in 14 colorways — Black, Blue Marble, Camo, Creature Green, Dark Green, Deep Blue, and more — with a removable glass bowl and dishwasher-safe body.

Three picks cover the range. The AFM 7" Hammer Bubbler is the glass benchmark — clean borosilicate, single perc, sized for one-handed use. The AFM 8" Hammer Bubbler is the larger glass option — more chamber for a smoother hit. The Eyce Hammer Silicone Bubbler (Black) is the travel pick — drop-resistant silicone, 14 colorways.

Hammer bubblers hold less water than a full bong, so the chamber clears faster and runs warmer if the water is not refreshed. Glass hammer bubblers crack if dropped; the Eyce silicone option is the drop-resistant alternative. Joint sizes are usually fixed on hand-held bubblers — check the listing before pairing with an aftermarket bowl. Keep the chamber clear with Formula 420 — see Cleaning Supplies.

Start with the AFM 7" Hammer Bubbler as the glass benchmark, read the iso-cleaning guide, and check Bubblers for the full bubbler range.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hammer Bubblers

A hammer bubbler is a water-filtered hand pipe with a flat base and a side-mounted stem — the body resembles a hammer head. The flat base lets the piece lie down stably on a table between hits. It sits between a dry spoon pipe and a full bong: water filtration for a smoother hit, but small enough to hold in one hand.
A hammer bubbler has a flat base and a horizontal, side-mounted body — it lies flat. A sherlock bubbler has a curved S-shaped neck and an upright profile. Both are water-filtered hand pipes; the difference is the silhouette and how the piece sits when set down. Hammer bubblers lie flat; sherlocks stand or rest on the curve.
Glass hammer bubblers like the AFM 7 inch and 8 inch deliver clean, flavor-neutral borosilicate but break if dropped. Silicone hammer bubblers like the Eyce Hammer are drop-resistant, dishwasher-safe, and come in 14 colorways, with a removable glass bowl — but slightly mute flavor. Choose glass for flavor, silicone for durability and travel.
Fill the hammer bubbler with just enough water to cover the downstem or diffuser opening — usually a small amount, since the chamber is compact. Too much water and it splashes up to the mouthpiece; too little and the smoke is not filtered. Test and adjust. Refresh the water regularly for the cleanest, coolest hits.
Empty and rinse the chamber after use. For resin buildup, pour Formula 420 Glass Cleaner into the chamber, plug the openings, shake for 30 to 60 seconds, then rinse. Silicone hammer bubblers like the Eyce can also go in the top rack of a dishwasher. See the Cleaning Supplies collection for the full range.
Yes. Hammer bubblers are one of the most beginner-friendly pieces in the entire glass category because they combine the ease of a hand pipe with the smoother smoke of a water pipe. The flat base lets the piece sit on a table without rolling or tipping, the side carb works exactly like a spoon pipe so there is no learning curve for clearing chambers, and the small water chamber requires only a couple of tablespoons of water rather than a full beaker fill. Beginners get the cooler, less harsh hit of water filtration without the awkward handling of a tall bong. Pull strength is gentler than a straight tube too, which matters for newer smokers and anyone with limited lung capacity. Recommended starter picks at Angies Boutique include the Grav Hammer Bubbler at $40 to $60 and the MAV Glass Hammer Bubbler in the $70 range. Both are American-made borosilicate and durable enough for daily use. If you want even smaller, look at sherlock bubblers or our hand pipes collection.
Hammer bubblers are more portable than tube bongs but less travel-friendly than dry hand pipes, so the answer depends on how you carry them. Empty the water before transport (a wet bubbler leaks and smells inside any bag), and place the piece inside a padded glass case or wrap it in a hoodie at minimum. The hammer shape is actually well-suited to short trips because the flat base prevents rolling and the compact size fits in most cross-body bags. Silicone hammer bubblers, which we stock in the $25 to $40 range, are the better choice for hiking, camping, beach days, and festivals because they survive drops onto rocks and pavement that would shatter glass. For air travel, store any bubbler in checked luggage cleaned spotless with no residue, since the TSA treats residue as paraphernalia even for legal hemp use. For everyday on-the-go sessions, browse our travel-friendly hand pipes and silicone bongs collections.
Splashback from a hammer bubbler almost always comes from one of three causes: too much water, too aggressive a pull, or a clogged downstem. The water level should sit just above the downstem slits, which is usually one to two tablespoons in a standard hammer. Any more and you risk splashback; any less and you lose filtration. Pull slowly and steadily rather than ripping it like a straight tube, because the small chamber does not have room to absorb fast turbulence. If you still gurgle, remove the downstem and check the slits for resin buildup. A clogged perc forces water up through the mouthpiece. Clean the entire piece with isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt at least every two weeks of regular use. If splashback persists after cleaning and proper water level, the downstem may be cracked or the wrong size. Bring it to our Los Angeles shop at 838 N Broadway and our staff will fit a replacement on the spot.
Standard hammer bubblers are designed for flower and use a traditional bowl piece, not a quartz banger. The bowl sits too close to the water chamber for safe torch use, and applying a butane torch to a hammer bubbler will crack the glass within a few sessions. For concentrates you want a dab rig or e-rig instead. That said, several hammer-style bubblers in our collection accept 14mm male nails and bangers if you want to convert one for occasional concentrate use. Look for hammers with a removable downstem and 14mm female joint, then add a low-profile quartz banger with a long neck to keep the heat away from the glass. The MAV Glass Hammer Bubbler and select Grav models work for this. For serious dabbers, browse our dab rigs and mini rigs collections instead, where every piece is engineered for high-heat concentrate use. Founded in 1990, Angies Boutique sells both single-purpose and convertible bubblers and our Chinatown LA staff will walk you through the right fit.
