It depends on how often you load and what you load. All of them get concentrate off a tool without a torch. What the Puffco Hot Knife adds is a tip that is glazed, rounded and temperature-tuned specifically to release cleanly without flashing terpenes, plus a two-year warranty. Load a couple of times a week and a cheaper tool is fine. Load daily with rosin or live resin and the material you stop losing to the tool adds up faster than the price difference.
It is more robust than the original — Puffco specifically strengthened this version for jar leverage — but it is ceramic and it will chip if you drop it tip-down onto a hard surface or force a jar that is genuinely frozen solid. Warm a cold jar in your hand for a minute before prying. Treat it like the ceramic tool it is and it lasts.
