Sauce Explained
Runny, syrupy and glistening, with crystals settled into a pool of liquid terpenes. The most aromatic texture you can dab.
Overview
What is Sauce?
Sauce, also called terp sauce, is a solvent-based cannabis concentrate with a runny, syrupy texture and small to large crystals settled in it. It is made in a licensed lab by extracting the resin with a hydrocarbon solvent and letting the extract separate over time into crystals and a liquid rich in terpenes. Sauce is gold to amber and is dabbed with a scoop tool in a rig, e-rig or pen.
Sauce is what you get when an extract is allowed to separate. The cannabinoids crystallize out while the terpenes, the aroma compounds, collect as a liquid around them. A sauce with large crystals is sold as diamonds and sauce, and most sauce on shelves is made from live resin.
Texture and color
What does Sauce look like?
Where Sauce sits on the texture scale
Sauce sits near the runny end: it pours slowly, drips off a flat tool and needs a scoop to move.
Terp sauce
Runny, glossy
A syrupy liquid with small crystals mixed through. Very aromatic and very sticky.
Diamonds and sauce
Big crystals
Large crystals sitting in the sauce. The crystals are sold as diamonds.
Sugar sauce
Grainy, wet
Finer crystals throughout, sitting between sugar and sauce.
Process
How is Sauce made?
Sauce usually starts as live resin: fresh frozen plants go through a closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction in a licensed lab.
Instead of being whipped or set flat, the extract is left to separate over days or weeks under controlled conditions. Crystals form and settle while the terpene-rich liquid rises around them, and the result is collected as sauce.
Safety note: hydrocarbon extraction uses flammable, pressurized gas and belongs in a licensed lab with closed-loop equipment. This page does not cover extraction steps, and Angies Boutique does not sell extraction equipment.

How does Sauce compare?
Sauce vs Diamonds
SameBoth come from the same separating process, and they are often sold together.
DifferentDiamonds are the large crystals. Sauce is the runny, aromatic liquid around them.
Sauce vs Sugar
SameBoth form by crystallizing and both are wet and aromatic.
DifferentSugar is grainy and holds together. Sauce is runnier.
Sauce vs Live resin
SameMost sauce is made from live resin.
DifferentLive resin describes the fresh frozen starting material. Sauce describes the runny texture.
Shop the gear
What gear works best with Sauce?
Sauce is runny, so a scoop or spoon dab tool is a must. Its aroma is the point, so gentle heat matters: an electric rig like the Puffco Peak Pro or Dr. Dabber Switch 2, or a glass rig with a quartz banger, carb cap and terp pearls at lower temperature.

Questions
Sauce FAQ
What is terp sauce?
Terp sauce is another name for sauce: a runny concentrate rich in terpenes, the compounds behind a plant's aroma, usually with crystals settled in it.
What is the difference between sauce and diamonds?
They come from the same process. Diamonds are the large crystals that form, and sauce is the liquid around them. They are often sold together as diamonds and sauce.
Why does sauce need a scoop tool?
Because it is runny. It drips off flat tools, so a scoop or spoon tip holds it while you load it.
How should sauce be stored?
In an airtight glass or silicone container somewhere cool and dark, so the aroma compounds do not evaporate or break down.
What gear works best with sauce?
An electric dab rig, or a glass rig with a quartz banger, carb cap and terp pearls at lower heat, plus a scoop or spoon dab tool.
Does Angies Boutique sell sauce?
No. Angies Boutique sells the gear for it, including e-rigs like the Puffco Peak Pro and Dr. Dabber Switch 2, quartz bangers, carb caps, terp pearls and dab tools, from our Los Angeles shop open since 1990.
