Live Rosin Explained
Fresh frozen plants, washed into ice water hash and pressed with heat. No solvents at all, and full of the living plant's aroma.
Overview
What is Live Rosin?
Live rosin is a solventless cannabis concentrate made from plants frozen right after harvest. The frozen material is washed in ice water to make bubble hash, and that hash is pressed with gentle heat and pressure to squeeze out the oil. Live rosin uses no chemical solvent, keeps a lot of the plant's aroma, and is usually soft, glossy and creamy. It is dabbed at lower temperatures.
Live rosin combines two ideas. Live means the plants were frozen fresh instead of dried and cured, the same as live resin. Rosin means it was pressed with heat and pressure instead of extracted with a solvent. Because it takes good hash and a lot of labor, live rosin is treated as a top-shelf craft concentrate and is usually harder to find.
Texture and color
What does Live Rosin look like?
Where Live Rosin sits on the texture scale
Live rosin sits on the runny side of the middle: glossy and soft fresh off the press, firming up as it cures.
Fresh press
Glossy, soft
Straight off the press it is a glossy, sappy oil, pale gold and slightly translucent.
Jam
Wet, jammy
Cured warm for a few days, it can turn wet and jammy, with a grainy, separated look.
Cold cure
Creamy, buttery
Cured cold, it whips into an opaque, creamy, buttery texture.

Process
How is Live Rosin made?
Live rosin takes two solventless steps. First, fresh frozen plants are gently agitated in ice water so the resin glands break off and are collected through fine mesh bags. That material is dried as bubble hash.
Second, the hash is pressed between heated plates at low temperature, and the oil is collected on parchment. It is then often cured, warm or cold, which sets its final texture. No chemical solvent touches it at any point.
Safety note: rosin presses combine very hot plates with high pressure. This page does not cover pressing steps, and Angies Boutique does not sell rosin presses.

DifferentLive resin uses a hydrocarbon solvent. Live rosin is solventless, made with only ice water, heat and pressure.
Live Rosin vs Rosin
SameBoth are pressed with heat and pressure and use no solvents.
DifferentRegular rosin can be pressed from dried flower or hash. Live rosin is pressed from hash made from fresh frozen plants.
Live Rosin vs Cold cure rosin
SameCold cure is a way of finishing rosin, often live rosin.
DifferentLive rosin describes the starting material. Cold cure describes the curing step that makes it creamy.
Shop the gear
What gear works best with Live Rosin?
Live rosin is all about flavor, so low, controlled heat is the rule. A portable like the Puffco Pivot or Proxy, or an electric rig like the Dr. Dabber Switch 2, holds a low setting, and a clean quartz banger with a carb cap and terp pearls does the same on a glass rig. A scoop or paddle tool moves soft rosin cleanly.

Questions
Live Rosin FAQ
What is the difference between live rosin and live resin?
Both start from fresh frozen plants. Live resin is made with a hydrocarbon solvent that is purged afterward. Live rosin is solventless, made with only ice water, heat and pressure.
Is live rosin solventless?
Yes. It is made with ice water, mesh bags, heat and pressure. No chemical solvent is used at any step.
Why is live rosin harder to find?
It takes high quality fresh frozen material, a careful ice water wash and a lot of labor for a small yield, so less of it is made.
How should live rosin be stored?
Cold and airtight. Many people keep it in the fridge in a sealed glass or silicone jar to protect its aroma and texture.
What gear works best with live rosin?
Low, controlled heat: a portable like the Puffco Pivot or Proxy, an electric dab rig, or a quartz banger with a carb cap and terp pearls, plus a scoop tool.
Does Angies Boutique sell live rosin?
No. Angies Boutique sells the gear for it, including the Puffco Pivot and Proxy, the Dr. Dabber Switch 2, quartz bangers, carb caps, terp pearls and dab tools, from our Los Angeles shop open since 1990.
