Three matching pieces: the rig with its removable 18mm downstem, a matching dish that sits on its own curved, horn-shaped support, and a matching dabber with a color-worked, twisted handle and an accent bead. All three share the same palette of purple, blue, amber, orange and red. A banger and carb cap are not part of the set, so plan on an 18mm male banger.
The rig has an 18mm female hand-ground joint, so it takes an 18mm male banger or nail. That is a larger size than a 14mm joint. A 14mm banger needs an 18mm to 14mm adapter, which raises the height of the setup. The hand-ground joint gives a snug fit with a proper 18mm male banger.
Our original listing records the signature as "Ginger ElA 2012," which dates it to 2012. That makes it a piece from an earlier period of the heady glass scene, which adds to its appeal for collectors. Signed and dated pieces are easier to identify and track, and a matching set from the same year is harder to assemble after the fact.
Both. It is a working dab rig with a removable downstem and an 18mm joint, and it can be used for home sessions. The curved horns and the sculpted head make it a display piece too, and the protruding legs need care, so it suits a home setup on a padded mat rather than travel or crowded tables.
Because it is one-off, artist-made glass rather than production glass. Ginger Ela worked the color, the horns and the head by hand and made a matching dish and dabber to go with it. Pieces like this are priced as art. Our guide AFM Glass vs. Heady Glass explains how one-off and production glass differ in price.
Take out the banger and downstem and let the rig cool completely. Soak the downstem in isopropyl alcohol. For the rig, pour in alcohol and coarse salt, cover the openings and swirl gently rather than shaking hard, since the horns are the first part to break. Rinse with warm water, never cold water on warm glass, and dry it on a soft towel.
