      Who is Crunklestein?

Devin Somerville has been blowing glass since before 2000. Millefiori, the old Italian technique of slicing patterned glass cane into small decorative discs, became his signature after friends, fans and fellow artists saw his millie pipes and pushed him to make all of his work that way. He calls the result chip stack: custom millies stacked and fused into the body of the piece.

His small dab rigs, especially mini tubes, carry encased millies through the neck and body, while his full-size sculpted rigs have included chameleons, kingfishers and hornbills. He is a two-time champion of The Bern Gallery's Pipe Classic in Burlington, Vermont, the longest-running pipe-making competition.

Buying and caring for a Crunklestein piece

Most Crunklestein pieces are one of one: the listing shows the actual piece, and once it sells it is gone. Clean heady glass gently with warm, not hot, isopropyl alcohol and fine salt, swirl instead of shaking hard, and rinse with warm water. Avoid sudden temperature changes and abrasive brushes on sculpted details. See Cleaning Supplies.
