Sheldon Black, also known as Sheldon Black Designs, is a Los Angeles glass company that began designing and making commercial smokeware in 1988, making it one of the pioneers of the American glass pipe industry. Founder Sheldon Black holds two United States patents from 1999 for a combined smoking pipe bowl and receiving stem, and every finished piece carries the Sheldon Black logo as a mark of authenticity. Angies Boutique, also in Los Angeles, carries Sheldon Black Grasso and Medio tubes, a Sheldon Black x Pakoh collab beaker and Top Hat domes.
Sheldon Black started making and designing commercial smokeware in Los Angeles in 1988, years before scientific glass was a category. His work on how a bowl connects to a pipe led to two US patents in 1999 for a combined smoking pipe bowl and receiving stem, and the company describes its mission as technically based, premium, hand-blown smokeware made by a family of master glassblowers.
Sheldon Black is known for three things: a deep bubbler collection, limited artist collaborations, and a glass tube line that the company says helped redefine standard pipe design. To guard against copies, every finished piece is marked with the Sheldon Black logo. For a shop in Chinatown, carrying Sheldon Black means carrying one of Los Angeles's own glass companies.
Medio pieces are heavy-wall 50x5mm tubes in a mid-size height. The 16" Medio Beaker has an 18mm female joint, a removable 14mm to 18mm downstem, a 14mm Sheldon Black slide and three ice pinches, and the 16" Medio Straight Tube in Silver is the straight version.
Grasso is a Sheldon Black tube and beaker line in 13, 16 and 19 inch heights. The 19" Grasso Straight Tube in Jah Smoke uses a 29mm female joint, a removable showerhead downstem, a 19mm Sheldon Black slide and three ice pinches on a 50x5mm body with a flared foot.
The Sheldon Black x Pakoh 16" Beaker is a limited edition that pairs Sheldon Black's beaker with sandblasted work by glass artist Pakoh, including a custom sandblasted downstem and slide.

It depends on the piece: the 16" Medio pieces use an 18mm female joint with a 14mm slide, and the 19" Grasso uses a 29mm female joint with a 19mm slide on the downstem.
