A mini dab rig is a compact dab rig — typically 4–6 inches tall — designed for solo concentrate sessions. It uses the same architecture as a full-size rig (water chamber, downstem, joint for a quartz banger) but at reduced scale. The smaller chamber holds less water and creates a shorter inhale path, which preserves concentrate flavor by minimizing dilution. Mini rigs are the most popular entry-tier and travel-tier format for dabbing because they cost less, take up less counter space, and require less maintenance than full-size rigs. Three reasons. (1) Flavor: smaller water chambers and shorter inhale paths preserve terpene character — concentrate vapor reaches your lungs less diluted. Flavor-focused dabbers consistently prefer mini rigs. (2) Portability: a 4-inch borosilicate rig fits in a backpack and travels easily; a 12-inch flower bong does not. (3) Solo-session efficiency: mini rigs are designed for one person, one dab at a time. Less water to change, smaller chamber to clean. Trade-offs: less filtration means harsher hits if the banger is overheated, and you cannot share a mini rig comfortably across a group. Atlas is the flagship beaker-base mini rig — single chamber, fixed downstem, tuned percolation for the small water volume. It's the daily-driver default. Hydra is a recycler — water circulates between the main chamber and a secondary chamber on every pull, producing smoother and cooler hits without changing water volume. Claude is a compact recycler — same recycler principle as Hydra but in a smaller, more travel-friendly footprint. Pick Atlas if you want classic mini rig simplicity. Pick Hydra if you want recycler smoothness with bench space. Pick Claude if you want recycler smoothness in the most compact form factor.

MJ Arsenal mini rigs are borosilicate glass — the same medical-grade thermal-shock-resistant glass used in laboratory glassware and most dab rigs. The quartz part is the banger or nail that attaches to the joint and gets directly heated with a torch. Bangers wear out and get swapped; the rig body lasts indefinitely with reasonable care. A glycerin chiller is a glass chamber filled with food-grade glycerin gel that you freeze for 30 or more minutes before use. The frozen glycerin holds sub-freezing temperature long enough to chill vapor on multiple pulls. Two formats: integrated into a pipe (Health Stone Inner Coolers — the entire pipe goes in the freezer) and as a separate bong/rig attachment (GRAV Glycerin Chiller Multi Kit — freeze the attachment, then connect to a compatible rig). Glycerin chillers produce significantly cooler hits than water alone without diluting vapor. They are not e-nail compatible because heating the glycerin chamber defeats the purpose.

An inner-cooler pipe has two sections — a smoking chamber where vapor passes and a sealed glycerin chamber that surrounds or sits alongside the smoking path. Before use, you put the entire pipe in the freezer for 30 minutes or more. The glycerin reaches sub-freezing temperature and holds it. When you heat the integrated dish and inhale, vapor travels past the frozen glycerin chamber and gets chilled by contact. The result is cool, smooth hits without water filtration. The pipe stays cold for multiple pulls. Refreeze between sessions. Health Stone's Sidecar and Stand Up Sherlock are the inner-cooler pipes in this collection.

For Health Stone Inner Coolers, yes — put the entire pipe in the freezer. The glycerin chamber is sealed and integrated; you cannot remove it separately. 30 minutes is the minimum freeze time for noticeable chilling effect; 60+ minutes is better for sustained cold across multiple pulls. The pipe stays usable cold for roughly 15–30 minutes after removal from the freezer depending on ambient temperature. For the GRAV Glycerin Chiller Multi Kit (attachment, not a full pipe), freeze only the glycerin attachment — the bong or rig it connects to stays at room temperature.

The GRAV Clear Vapor Straw is a borosilicate straw shaped like a slim tube with a heating tip — a nectar-collector format. You heat the tip with a torch until red-hot, then touch the heated tip directly to concentrate sitting on the included glass dish and inhale through the other end. Vapor passes through the straw and into your lungs. There is no water chamber, no separate banger, no rig. It's the simplest possible concentrate consumption tool. Best for sampling, travel and users who want minimum gear count. Trade-off: no water filtration means hotter, less filtered hits than a rig produces.

Functionally yes — both use the same heat-tip-to-dish principle. The naming distinction varies by brand and by whether the unit is glass, silicone or has additional features like water filtration. GRAV's Clear Vapor Straw is a single-piece borosilicate design with a paired dish. Traditional nectar collectors often include a water chamber and modular joints. The MJ Arsenal Atlas Mini Rig is the standard recommendation. It uses classic single-chamber mini rig architecture — beaker base, fixed downstem, banger-ready 10mm joint, tuned perc for the chamber size. Easy to fill with water, easy to use with any quartz banger, easy to clean. The Helix 8" 14mm Multi Kit Clear is a step up in size at a similar entry price and ships as a kit with a banger included — useful if you don't already own one. Both are durable borosilicate that survives normal handling. Skip recyclers (Hydra, Claude) and heady art pieces as a first rig; they have more failure points and higher prices respectively.

Yes and no. They are functional concentrate gear and they work — Toro Glass and E.F. Norris pieces are made by working glass artists who design them to be used. But the price tier ($500–$1,500+) and the collector value mean most owners treat them as occasional-use pieces, not daily drivers. Heady art rigs sit on the counter, get used for special sessions or when guests visit, and live carefully. Hard daily use accelerates wear on percs and joints and risks chipping that hurts resale value. If you want a daily-driver concentrate rig, buy an MJ Arsenal mini or Helix kit; if you want a piece you'll cherish and occasionally use, buy heady.

MJ Arsenal mini rigs run 4–6 inches tall depending on the model — the Mini Jig and Atlas are around 5 inches, the Hydra and Claude recyclers slightly taller because of the second chamber. Standard mini rigs (MJ Arsenal, Helix) with quartz banger joints accept e-nail attachments — wrap an e-nail heater coil around a banger sized to the joint (10mm or 14mm), set temperature on the controller, no torch needed. Inner-cooler pipes (Health Stone) are designed for torch use on the integrated dish and are not e-nail compatible — the integrated heating surface is not a removable banger.
